6.5 Set the focus mode to S (single servo AF) Turn the focus mode selector until it clicks into place pointing to S (single servo AF). For more information on focus settings, see "Camera Settings." 6.6 Set the AF area mode to single area AF A B C Hold down the AF area mode button (A) and turn the main command dial (B). Stop when [ ] (single area AF) appears in the control panel on top of the camera (C). AF area mode is detailed in "Camera Settings: AF Area Mode." Autofocus In autofocus (AF) mode, the camera focuses automatically when the shutter-release button is pressed half way, or when the AF start button is pressed. Two autofocus modes are available: S (single-servo AF) and C (continuous AF). In single-servo AF, the shutter can only be released when the camera is in focus. Do not use the focus ring when autofocus is in effect. Autofocus can be set to start only when the AF start button is pressed (see "Custom Settings," item 4). 16 First Steps: Take a Photograph
