Using InfoPrint Manager LPD and an LPR client, Selecting the correct finishing options, Paper fed LEF

Page 340 highlights

Using InfoPrint Manager LPD and an LPR client The InfoPrint Manager Line Printer Daemon (LPD) is a utility that lets you submit print jobs from other operating systems using a Line Printer (LPR) client. To submit print jobs with finishing to the InfoPrint Manager LPD, you must use an LPR client, such as lprafp, that lets you use -o options to specify advanced printing options (for example, form definitions and page definitions) when you submit jobs to InfoPrint Manager. You can either specify finishing attributes on the submission command or use a default job. On a Windows server, the InfoPrint Manager LPD is the only LPD that properly processes the -o options that lprafp submits. If you use a different LPD (such as TCP/IP Print Services, the LPD supplied with the Windows operating system), the -o options that you send will be lost. You can download an lprafp sample code package from the Ricoh Production Print Solutions Company Web site at http://www.infoprint.com. The package includes executable forms of the lprafp client for the Windows and AIX (Version 4.3.3 Build Level 9 and later) platforms. You can also compile this code to use it on other platforms. Ricoh Production Print Solutions Company does not provide support for the package. Selecting the correct finishing options In InfoPrint Manager, the finishing options have very descriptive names so that it is easy to choose the one you want for your job. However, the names of those options are based on print jobs that use the "portrait" orientation, and as a result are misleading for jobs that printed in the "landscape" orientation. In addition, some of the options are valid if the paper is fed through the printer long edge first (LEF) and not valid if the paper is fed short edge first (SEF), and vice versa. As a result, choosing the correct finishing option can be confusing. These tables can help you determine which option to choose based on how you want your job to be finished. Paper fed LEF Table 42. Using InfoPrint Manager LPD and an LPR client
The InfoPrint Manager Line Printer Daemon (LPD) is a utility that lets you submit
print jobs from other operating systems using a Line Printer (LPR) client. To
submit print jobs with finishing to the InfoPrint Manager LPD, you must use an
LPR client, such as
lprafp
, that lets you use –o options to specify advanced
printing options (for example, form definitions and page definitions) when you
submit jobs to InfoPrint Manager. You can either specify finishing attributes on the
submission command or use a default job.
On a Windows server, the InfoPrint Manager LPD is the only LPD that properly
processes the –o options that
lprafp
submits. If you use a different LPD (such as
TCP/IP Print Services, the LPD supplied with the Windows operating system), the
–o options that you send will be lost. You can download an
lprafp
sample code
package from the Ricoh Production Print Solutions Company Web site at
http://www.infoprint.com. The package includes executable forms of the
lprafp
client for the Windows and AIX (Version 4.3.3 Build Level 9 and later) platforms.
You can also compile this code to use it on other platforms. Ricoh Production Print
Solutions Company does not provide support for the package.
Selecting the correct finishing options
In InfoPrint Manager, the finishing options have very descriptive names so that it
is easy to choose the one you want for your job. However, the names of those
options are based on print jobs that use the "portrait" orientation, and as a result
are misleading for jobs that printed in the "landscape" orientation. In addition,
some of the options are valid if the paper is fed through the printer long edge first
(LEF) and not valid if the paper is fed short edge first (SEF), and vice versa. As a
result, choosing the correct finishing option can be confusing. These tables can help
you determine which option to choose based on how you want your job to be
finished.
