Using a Windows gateway printer A Windows gateway printer is a Windows shared printer that you create on your InfoPrint Manager server system. This lets users anywhere in the network to submit print jobs through InfoPrint Manager. InfoPrint Manager organizes everyone's print jobs by putting them in a print queue in the order that it receives them, then sends them all to the correct printers. In addition, if you have InfoPrint Manager notifications running on your workstation, InfoPrint manager sends you messages about the status of your print job. Users must follow the instructions in "Adding a Windows gateway printer to a workstation" to add the Windows gateway printer to their desktops. Administrator's can use the Management Console to create and administer a Windows gateway printer. The Management Console help includes instructions. Note: When InfoPrint Manager is uninstalled, all Windows Gateway printers are deleted. Therefore, you must have your users manually delete the Windows Gateway printer from their desktops after the uninstall. Adding a Windows gateway printer to a workstation To add a Windows gateway printer to a workstation, instruct your users to follow the steps below. This procedure assumes that you have already created the Windows gateway printer on the InfoPrint Manager server system. 1. Locate the share name of the Windows gateway printer. 2. Follow the standard procedure for adding a network printer to your desktop. This procedure depends on the operating system that you use. For example, on Windows systems, use the Add Printer Wizard to create a printer that will be managed by network print server. When you are prompted for the name of the printer to connect to, enter the share name of the Windows gateway printer. 3. Once the connection to the Windows gateway printer is created, you can print to it just as you would print to any other printer. Notes: 1. When the InfoPrint Manager server is uninstalled, any Windows gateway printers that exist on the server are deleted.
