2-6 Installation Overview s Turn on the computer and insert the SmartStart and Support Software and Support Software CD to configure and manage the server. When the server boots from the SmartStart and Support Software program, it automatically starts the System Configuration Utility. See Chapter 5 for detailed information. s Register your server. For complete details on the SmartStart and Support Software program, read the SmartStart and Support Software installation card included in your SmartStart and Support Software package. After the SmartStart and Support Software program has finished configuring your system, you have completed the installation of your new Compaq server. Installing a Tower Model Below are the general steps for installing your tower model ProLiant 5500 Model 6/400-512 server: s Unpack the server. s Install any hardware options in the server. See Chapter 6 for installing the Integrated Management Display in your tower model. See Chapter 4 and the options kits for detailed instructions on installing other options and components. s Set switches: peripheral board switches, system board switches, and SCSI ID settings. s Connect cables: keyboard, mouse, monitor, network, and power cables. See Chapter 7. s Turn on the computer and insert the SmartStart and Support Software and Support Software CD to configure and manage the server.
