Installing the Integrated Storage Controller Card CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product. 1 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the electrical outlet. 2 Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 76. 3 If installed, remove the expansion card. See "Removing an Expansion Card" on page 88. 4 To install the integrated storage controller card: a Hold the card by its edges. b Align the card with the alignment guides. c Insert the card-edge connector firmly into the connector until the card is fully seated. 5 Close the system. See "Closing the System" on page 77. 6 Reconnect the system to its electrical outlet and turn the system on, including any attached peripherals. System Memory Your system supports DDR3 unbuffered ECC DIMMs (UDIMMs) and registered ECC DIMMs (RDIMMs). DIMMs can be 1066 or 1333 MHz. The system contains six memory sockets organized into two DDR3 channels. The first socket of each channel is marked with white release levers. Your system supports RDIMMs of 256 MB and 512 MB technologies and x4/x16 DRAM device widths. It does not support UDIMMs of 256 MB technology and x4 DRAM device widths, and quad-rank UDIMMs. Installing System Components 97

Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect
the system from the electrical outlet.

Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 76.

If installed, remove the expansion card. See "Removing an Expansion
Card" on page 88.

To install the integrated storage controller card:
a
Hold the card by its edges.
b
Align the card with the alignment guides.

Insert the card-edge connector firmly into the connector until the card
