Does the amount of memory installed match the

System Memory

setting?

Yes.

Go to step 8.

No.

Go to step 3.

Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the

power cable from the electrical outlet.

Open the panel doors on top of the computer.

See ²Accessing the Interior of Your System³ found earlier in this chapter.

5.

Reseat the DIMMs in their sockets.

See ²Adding Memory³ in Chapter 8 for instructions on removing and replacing

DIMMs.

6.

Close the computer panel doors, reconnect the system to the electrical outlet,

and turn on the system.

7.

Enter the System Setup program and check the

System Memory

setting again.

Does the amount of memory installed match the

System Memory

setting?

Yes.

Go to step 8.

No.

Go to step 9.

8.

Reboot the system, and observe the monitor screen and the Num Lock, Caps

Lock, and Scroll Lock indicators on the keyboard.

Does the monitor screen remain blank, and do the Num Lock, Caps Lock, and

Scroll Lock indicators on the keyboard remain on?

Yes.

Go to step 9.

No.

Go to step 10.

9.

Turn off the system, disconnect it from the electrical outlet, and open the panel

doors on top of the computer.

10.

If possible, swap the DIMM in socket DIMM_A with one of the same capacity,

reboot the system, and observe the monitor screen and the indicators on the

keyboard.

Is the problem resolved?

Yes.

You have fixed the problem.

No.

Go to step 11.
