Both the diskette and CD-ROM drives must connect to a four-wire DC power cable
from the system power supply. Refer to Figure 9-4 to identify the correct cable con-
nector to use for a particular drive before connecting the drives. The power
connectors are keyed to avoid incorrect insertion; do not force two connectors
together if they do not fit properly.

The CD-ROM drive is controlled by the Ultra/Narrow small computer system interface
(SCSI) controller on the system board. Dell assigns the following default SCSI ID
numbers:

The integrated Ultra/Narrow SCSI host adapter is configured through the basic
input/output system (BIOS) as SCSI ID 7

Dells ships with the CD-ROM drive a SCSI connector cable that has an active termina-
tor on the end of the cable. Before installing the CD-ROM drive in your system and
connecting the terminated cable, you must disable termination on the CD-ROM drive.
Refer to the CD-ROM documentation for information about termination.

To install the SCSI CD-ROM drive, follow these steps:
1.
Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the sys-
tem from its electrical outlet.
