Cooling fans The cooling fans are integrated into the system to dissipate the heat generated by the functioning of the system. These fans provide cooling for the processors, expansion cards, and memory modules. NOTE: Each fan is listed in the systems management software, referenced by the respective fan number. If there is a problem with a particular fan, you can easily identify and replace the proper fan by noting the fan numbers on the cooling fan assembly. Removing a cooling fan Prerequisites NOTE: Opening or removing the system cover when the system is on may expose you to a risk of electric shock. Exercise utmost care while removing or installing cooling fans. CAUTION: The cooling fans are hot swappable. To maintain proper cooling while the system is on, replace only one fan at a time. 1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions on page 44. 2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system on page 45. 3.
