Installing a PCIe expansion card Prerequisites 1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions on page 44. 2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system on page 45. 3. Remove the air shroud. Steps 1. Unpack the expansion card and prepare it for installation. For instructions, see the documentation accompanying the card. 2. If you are installing a new card, remove the filler bracket. a. Open the blue expansion card retention latch lock. b. Slide the filler bracket out of the system. Figure 60. Removing the filler bracket NOTE: Store the filler bracket for future use. Filler brackets must be installed in empty expansion card slots to maintain FCC certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system. 3. Holding the card on the edges, align the card with the expansion card connector on the system board. 4. Press the expansion card firmly into the expansion card connector on the system board until the card is fully seated. 5. Prerequisites

2.
Follow the procedure listed in

Remove the air shroud

Steps
1.
Unpack the expansion card and prepare it for installation.
For instructions, see the documentation accompanying the card.
2.
If you are installing a new card, remove the filler bracket.
a.
Open the blue expansion card retention latch lock.
b.
Slide the filler bracket out of the system.

NOTE:
Store the filler bracket for future use. Filler brackets must be installed in empty expansion card slots to
maintain FCC certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper

3.
Holding the card on the edges, align the card with the expansion card connector on the system board.
4.
Press the expansion card firmly into the expansion card connector on the system board until the card is fully seated.
5.
Close the blue expansion card retention latch.
