removing the side panel You must remove the side panel to add memory, insert add-in cards, install or remove drives, or change the battery: 1 Turn off the computer and all peripherals. 2 Disconnect the modem/telephone cable. 3 Disconnect the power cord and all other attached cables (such as the keyboard, mouse, and monitor). 4 Loosen the two thumbscrews on the right side of the back panel. The first time you loosen these screws you'll need a flathead screwdriver. (These screws do not detach; they'll stay on the side panel loosely until you tighten them again.) 5 Stand behind the computer, and place one hand on top of the chassis. upgrading and servicing the pc (2) 121

Turn off the computer and all peripherals.

Disconnect the modem/telephone cable.

Disconnect the power cord and all other attached cables (such as the
keyboard, mouse, and monitor).

Loosen the two thumbscrews on the right side of the back panel. The first
time you loosen these screws you’ll need a flathead screwdriver. (These
screws do not detach; they’ll stay on the side panel loosely until you tighten
them again.)

Stand behind the computer, and place one hand on top of the chassis.
