Removing a Hot-swap SAS or SATA Hard Disk Drive To remove a hot-swap SAS/SATA hard disk drive, follow these steps: 1. Press the green latch towards the black lever and pull out on the lever to release the hard drive carrier. 2. Slide the carrier from the server system. 3. Remove the four screws that attach the hard drive to the drive carrier. Lift the drive from the carrier and store the drive in an anti-static bag. 4. Do one of the following: - To install the replacement drive, see "Installing a Hot-swap SAS or SATA Hard Disk Drive" on page 61. - If you are not installing a drive, place the plastic retention device into the drive carrier and secure the device by inserting the four screws your removed from the hard drive into the screw locations on the carrier. Note: To maintain proper system cooling, all hard drive carriers must be installed in the server system and populated with either a drive or a drive blank. 5. With the black lever in the fully open position, slide the drive carrier into the server system and push all the way until it stops. 6. Close the lever to lock the drive carrier into place. Installing and Removing a Slimline Optical Drive or Internal USB Floppy You can install a SATA optical drive in the slimline optical drive bay. In the Intel® Server System SR1600UR with hot-swap hard drives (Product Code: SR1600URHS), you can also install a slimline USB floppy drive. The USB floppy drive can be inserted into either the slimline bay or hard drive bay directly below the slimline bay. Cautions: Slimline optical drives and USB floppy drives are NOT hot-swappable. Before removing or replacing the drive, you must first take the server out of service, turn off all peripheral devices connected to the system, turn off the system by pressing the power button, and unplug the AC power cord from the system or wall outlet. To maintain proper system cooling, a filler blank must be installed if you do not install a device at this location. Note: A USB Floppy drive is not supported in the Intel® Server System SR1600UR with fixed mount hard drives (Product Code: SR1600UR). For a web link to a list of supported hardware, see "Additional Information and Software" on page 3. Intel® Server System SR1600UR Service Guide 63
