Plasma Display protection function When still images (such as photos and computer images) stay on the screen for an extended period of time, the screen will be slightly dimmed. This is because the protection function of the Plasma Display automatically adjusts the brightness to protect the screen when detecting still images; so this does not designate malfunction. The screen is dimmed when a still image is detected for about three minutes. Information of pixel defect Plasma screens display information using pixels. Pioneer plasma display panels contain a very large number of pixels. (Depending on the panel size; over 2.3 million pixels in case of a 43 inch display, over 2.9 million pixels in case of a 50 inch display, over 3.1 million pixels in case of a 61 inch display).
