3-50 Compaq ProLiant 6400R Maintenance and Service Guide When you enable ASR-2 to start Compaq Utilities, the server restarts after a critical error and loads Compaq Utilities from the system partition on the hard drive. You can configure the server to start Compaq Utilities in four different ways: Without remote console support, for example, to run Compaq Utilities from the server console only With remote console support, using modems for dial-in access With remote console support, using a modem to dial a predetermined telephone number With remote console support through a network connection (IP or IPX) Features Software error recovery Software error recovery time-out Standby recovery server option Standby recovery server port Standby recovery time-out Software error recovery boot option Thermal shutdown UPS shutdown UPS shutdown threshold Table 3-20 ASR Features Definition If enabled, ASR-2 is activated if the OS hangs or has a crash that results in a lockup. Determines how long the server waits to enable ASR-2 after an OS lockup If enabled, ASR-2 activation initiates a switch to a standby recovery server. Port used to communicate with the recovery server. Determines how long the server waits to initiate switch after ASR-2 activation. Enables the server to restart either into the OS or into Compaq Utilities. If enabled, shuts down the server if a critical thermal error occurs. If enabled, enables the server to perform a shutdown if a UPS is activated. Determines how long the server waits to shut down after the UPS is activated. If desired, the number should provide enough time for an administrator to perform any necessary operations or to gracefully shut down the server.
