Hardware Description Device Port Configurations PowerConnect 5324 Front Panel Port Description The PowerConnect 5324 device is configured with the following ports: • 24 Copper ports - RJ-45 ports designated as 10/100/1000 BaseT Gigabit Ethernet ports • 4 Fiber ports - Designated as Gigabit ports • Terminal port - RS-232 console based port The following figure illustrates the PowerConnect 5324 front panel. Figure 2-3. PowerConnect 5324 Front Panel The front panel contains ports1-24, which are copper based RJ-45 ports, designated as 10/100/1000 Mbps and support both Half and Full Duplex modes. There are four SFP fiber ports which are designated as Combo ports 21-24. A Combo port is a single logical port with two physical connections. Only one physical connection can be active at a time, so either the copper ports or the equivalent fiber ports 21-24 can be active, but they cannot both be active simultaneously. The upper row of ports are marked by odd numbers 1-23 and the lower row of ports are marked with even numbers 2-24. On the front panel is an RS-232 Console port, all the device LEDs and a Reset Button which is used to manually reset the device. Hardware Description 29
