resources is the same as the search order for AFP font resources. Make sure that the path where you install the OpenType Fonts is in the font search order that InfoPrint Manager uses. For more information about how the font search order is defined see "The search order for AFP resources" on page 110. An administrator installs the OpenType fonts in a particular directory on each system. On an AIX server, the default path for installing these fonts is the /usr/lpp/ipfonts directory. On a Windows server, the default path is set up by the administrator who configured the system. Once the OpenType fonts have been installed through the IBM Infoprint Fonts for Multiplatforms product, you must run the Resource Installer to create the Resource Access Table (IBM_DataObjectFont.rat) and store it in the same directory where the fonts reside. The Resource Installer does not prompt you to do this task because the Resource Installer is not aware of changes to the directory. As a result, the system administrator who installed the new fonts must do this task whenever fonts are either added or removed from the directory. The Resource Access Table contains an entry for each installed font so that InfoPrint Manager can access it. For more information about how to use the Resource Installer of Infoprint Fonts, either access the online help system of the Resource Installer or see Using OpenType Fonts in an AFP System. Using font capture with OpenType fonts Font capture allows a printer to capture a downloaded font and treat it as if it were a printer-resident font. Treating a downloaded font as a printer-resident font improves performance for future jobs that use the same fonts. Printers retain captured fonts across job boundaries and power cycles. Captured fonts can be deleted from the printer when additional space is required. Because OpenType fonts are large, you might want to make sure that your InfoPrint printer is set to support font capture. If you want to capture OpenType fonts that reside in a library on a particular drive, click the Font Installer's Capture check box. (far right column of the Top pane) for each font that you want to capture. For more information, see the Resource Installer online help system. Note: Do not capture sensitive fonts, such as signatures, because an unauthorized person could access the captured font, even from another system. Enabling font capture for inline fonts If the jobs that you run through your system use the same fonts, you might want to enable your actual destination to capture inline font resources. These inline fonts must have an object identifier (OID) so InfoPrint can capture them. Note: For many systems, this procedure is not recommended because captured inline fonts can be deleted when your printer needs more storage. If InfoPrint Manager cannot access these fonts, the jobs can either fail or print incorrectly. From the InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI: 1. Click the actual destination and select Printer → Properties. Chapter 21. Working with fonts 227

resources is the same as the search order for AFP font resources. Make sure that
the path where you install the OpenType Fonts is in the font search order that
InfoPrint Manager uses. For more information about how the font search order is
defined see “The search order for AFP resources” on page 110.
An administrator installs the OpenType fonts in a particular directory on each
system. On an AIX server, the default path for installing these fonts is the
/usr/lpp/ipfonts
directory. On a Windows server, the default path is set up by the
administrator who configured the system.
Once the OpenType fonts have been installed through the IBM Infoprint Fonts for
Multiplatforms product, you must run the Resource Installer to create the Resource
Access Table (
IBM_DataObjectFont.rat
) and store it in the same directory where
the fonts reside. The Resource Installer does not prompt you to do this task
because the Resource Installer is not aware of changes to the directory. As a result,
the system administrator who installed the new fonts must do this task whenever
fonts are either added or removed from the directory.
The Resource Access Table contains an entry for each installed font so that
InfoPrint Manager can access it.
For more information about how to use the Resource Installer of Infoprint Fonts,
either access the online help system of the Resource Installer or see

Fonts in an AFP System

Using font capture with OpenType fonts
Font capture allows a printer to capture a downloaded font and treat it as if it
were a printer-resident font. Treating a downloaded font as a printer-resident font
improves performance for future jobs that use the same fonts. Printers retain
captured fonts across job boundaries and power cycles. Captured fonts can be
deleted from the printer when additional space is required. Because OpenType
fonts are large, you might want to make sure that your InfoPrint printer is set to
support font capture.
If you want to capture OpenType fonts that reside in a library on a particular
drive, click the Font Installer's
Capture
check box. (far right column of the Top
pane) for each font that you want to capture. For more information, see the
Resource Installer online help system.
Note:
Do not capture sensitive fonts, such as signatures, because an unauthorized
person could access the captured font, even from another system.
Enabling font capture for inline fonts
If the jobs that you run through your system use the same fonts, you might want
to enable your actual destination to capture inline font resources. These inline fonts
must have an object identifier (OID) so InfoPrint can capture them.
Note:
For many systems, this procedure is not recommended because captured
inline fonts can be deleted when your printer needs more storage. If InfoPrint
Manager cannot access these fonts, the jobs can either fail or print incorrectly.
From the
InfoPrint Manager Administration GUI
