In theory, you can interoperate as many servers as you would like, however, the performance of the servers will depend upon the primary server hardware. For best performance, use the most powerful system that you have available for the primary server. v Which system should contain the namespace? The namespace does not contain large volumes of data (so it does not have to reside on the system with the most disk space) and it does not move a lot of data across the network. However, because all of the other servers will rely on the namespace server, it must be available and reliable. Put the namespace on the system that has the most availability (always running), most reliability (does not have to be rebooted often), and is the most powerful. The namespace must be located on an AIX system. v InfoPrint Manager Security All of the information that InfoPrint Manager Security uses to protect your printing system (groups and Access Control Lists (ACLs)) is stored in the namespace. When you share the namespace, the groups and ACLs that you set on the namespace server apply to all of the servers; the groups and ACLs that you set on the other servers before they joined the common namespace disappear. As a result, you should wait until you have the interoperating environment set up before you set up any security on the systems. Configuring a primary AIX server with a secondary AIX server Follow the appropriate instructions according to your configuration needs: New secondary InfoPrint for AIX server If you are installing InfoPrint Manager for the first time on an AIX system, and you want to make the new system a secondary InfoPrint server, see InfoPrint Manager for AIX: Installation Instructions for information about doing this during the installation. Once InfoPrint is installed on the secondary system, see "Installing secondary InfoPrint servers" in InfoPrint Manager for AIX: Getting Started. Creating a secondary InfoPrint server from a primary InfoPrint server If you have two or more independent InfoPrint Manager primary servers that you want to change into secondary servers, see "Migrating from a primary server to a secondary server" in the InfoPrint Manager for AIX: Installation Instructions. Configuring a primary AIX server with a secondary Windows server Important: In order to interoperate InfoPrint Manager for Windows with InfoPrint Manager for AIX: v The AIX system must have AIX Fast Connect installed or another Server Message Block (SMB) solution. printing system (groups and Access Control Lists (ACLs)) is stored in the

namespace. When you share the namespace, the groups and ACLs that you set

on the namespace server apply to all of the servers; the groups and ACLs that

you set on the other servers before they joined the common namespace

disappear. As a result, you should wait until you have the interoperating

environment set up before you set up any security on the systems.

Configuring a primary AIX server with a secondary AIX server

Follow the appropriate instructions according to your configuration needs:

New secondary InfoPrint for AIX server

In order to interoperate InfoPrint Manager for Windows with InfoPrint Manager

for AIX:

The AIX system must have AIX Fast Connect installed or another Server

Message Block (SMB) solution.

Note:

Fast Connect is not supported on Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft

Windows Server 2008. Use an SMB solution.
