Chapter 30. Printing data sets from an MVS system through MVS Download This section contains information about setting up and using the MVS Download daemon supplied with InfoPrint Manager to print MVS jobs on InfoPrint-managed printers. The MVS jobs must come from an MVS system that has the Download for z/OS or AFP Download Plus feature of IBM Print Services Facility for z/OS program product installed. The InfoPrint MVS Download daemon allows MVS users to print data sets from the MVS JES spool on InfoPrint-managed printer devices. The MVS data sets contain MO:DCA data. With Download for z/OS, you can also print MVS data sets containing PostScript data or data in any of the other formats supported by InfoPrint. The PSF for z/OS Download feature uses a routing-control data set residing on the MVS system to map any combination of the CLASS, FORMS, and DEST JCL parameters to a specific MVS Download daemon on a specific InfoPrint Manager server. The PSF for z/OS AFP Download Plus feature uses parameters in the PRINTDEV to identify a single MVS Download daemon on a specific InfoPrint Manager server. Preparing to work with MVS Download Read through this to become familiar with MVS Download terms and components. Why use MVS Download? When you have data on an MVS system that you want to print on an InfoPrint-managed printer device, you can use the Download for z/OS or AFP Download Plus feature of PSF for z/OS and the InfoPrint MVS Download daemon. The PSF for z/OS features and the InfoPrint daemon: v Provide a high-speed data transfer utility for high-volume jobs. v Restart from a checkpoint if something interrupts the data transmission. v Do not require separate spool management and queueing on MVS because of seamless integration with System Display and Search Facility (SDSF). InfoPrint provides a daemon, mvsprsd, which receives data sets from one or more MVS systems. If you expect a high volume of data, you can configure several mvsprsd daemons to receive the data sets from MVS. The InfoPrint MVS Download daemon allows MVS users to print data sets from

the MVS JES spool on InfoPrint-managed printer devices. The MVS data sets

Why use MVS Download?

When you have data on an MVS system that you want to print on an

InfoPrint-managed printer device, you can use the Download for z/OS or AFP

Download Plus feature of PSF for z/OS and the InfoPrint MVS Download daemon.

The PSF for z/OS features and the InfoPrint daemon:

Provide a high-speed data transfer utility for high-volume jobs.

Restart from a checkpoint if something interrupts the data transmission.

Do not require separate spool management and queueing on MVS because of

seamless integration with System Display and Search Facility (SDSF).

What is the MVS Download daemon?

InfoPrint provides a daemon,

mvsprsd

, which receives data sets from one or more

MVS systems. If you expect a high volume of data, you can configure several

mvsprsd

daemons to receive the data sets from MVS.
