Qualifiers for selecting entities based on a database field (continued) Qualifier > Result Includes entities if field value is greater than Value. >= Includes entities if field value is greater than or equal to Value. 5 Enter the value you want to use to compare with the entity's field value in the Value text box. 6 Click OK. TIP To select a character database field regardless of its value, use the wildcard "*" to match all values. You can also use the wildcard "?" to match any single character of a character database field. Aligning the Selection Handles Selection handles are control points which allow you to move or resize the selection set by clicking and dragging. They are positioned around the extent box, the smallest rectangle that can contain the selection set. The extent box, in turn, can be aligned to one of three sources: s The entity-By default, if a selection set contains a single entity, the handles are aligned to the entity itself. This means that the extent box for a rotated ellipse can be aligned to the ellipse itself, allowing you to resize or scale the ellipse without changing the orientation of its axes. s The grid-By default, if a selection set contains multiple entities, the handles are aligned to the grid. This is especially useful if you have changed the grid angle because it allows you to accurately resize the selection set with the aid of the reference grid. s The World-You can also align the selection handles to World coordinates. This means that the extent box is always composed of horizontal and vertical sides, regardless of the orientation of the entity or the grid. NOTE You cannot align the selection handles to polar or isometric grids. To align the selection handles to the grid 1 Create a selection set. 2 Right-click the selection set, then click Align Selection Set, Grid. Aligning the Selection Handles | 255

5
Enter the value you want to use to compare with the entity’s field value in
the Value text box.
6
Click OK.
TIP
To select a character database field regardless of its value, use the
wildcard “*” to match all values. You can also use the wildcard “?” to match
any single character of a character database field.
Aligning the Selection Handles
Selection handles are control points which allow you to move or resize the
selection set by clicking and dragging. They are positioned around the extent
box, the smallest rectangle that can contain the selection set. The extent box,
in turn, can be aligned to one of three sources:
The entity
—By default, if a selection set contains a single entity, the han-
dles are aligned to the entity itself. This means that the extent box for a
rotated ellipse can be aligned to the ellipse itself, allowing you to resize or
scale the ellipse without changing the orientation of its axes.
The grid
—By default, if a selection set contains multiple entities, the han-
dles are aligned to the grid. This is especially useful if you have changed
the grid angle because it allows you to accurately resize the selection set
with the aid of the reference grid.
The World
—You can also align the selection handles to World coordi-
nates. This means that the extent box is always composed of horizontal
and vertical sides, regardless of the orientation of the entity or the grid.
NOTE
You cannot align the selection handles to polar or isometric grids.
To align the selection handles to the grid
1
Create a selection set.
2
Right-click the selection set, then click Align Selection Set, Grid.
