Small Form Factor Committee The process by which you make CIFS files on one host available to another host. This term also refers to the shared directory itself (you create a share; you share a directory). Files in the directory are shared among user groups specified in permissions and access. Common functional components in either a DPE or DAE. for example, a shelf can consist of disks and their supporting hardware or storage processors and their supporting hardware. In an IP4700, the first shelf is always shelf 0 and contains SP A and SP B See storage processor (SP). A unit (otherwise known as a battery backup unit) that provides backup power in case of a power outage. An SPS is required for storage-system write caching. If power fails, the SPS allows the storage processor to write the data from its cache to disk. You can replace an SPS under power, without interrupting applications. A printed-circuit board with memory modules and control logic that manages the file system I/O between the clients and the disk modules. For higher availability and greater flexibility, an IP4700 uses a second storage processor. storage-system caching The procedure of storing disk-based data in RAM memory (in this case, RIMM memory on an storage processor) temporarily to save time if the data needs to be accessed or changed again soon. volume V A logical disk drive that is built across a group of disks and is permanently associated with one of the storage processors.
