Installing expansion cards Installing expansion cards Installing an expansion card When you are installing an expansion card into a slot for the first time, the server must be turned off, even if you are installing the card into a hot-swap card slot. If you are replacing an existing card, see "Replacing a hot-swap expansion card" on page 82 or "Replacing a standard expansion card" on page 84. 32-bit PCI expansion slots 64-bit PCI expansion slots Hot-swap 64-bit PCI expansion slots To install an expansion card: 1 Follow the instructions in "Preventing static electricity discharge" on page 36. Make sure that you turn off the server, then unplug the power cords and all other cables connected to the server. 2 If you are installing a card into a standard PCI card slot, remove the inside panel. Installing an expansion card
When you are installing an expansion card into a slot for the first time, the
server must be turned off, even if you are installing the card into a hot-swap
card slot. If you are replacing an existing card, see

To install an expansion card:
