1 Introduction Intel Server Management (ISM) Installation and User's Guide Installation Steps Intel® Server Management (ISM) is a server management tool implemented with a client-server architecture. This guide explains how to install ISM and use the software to: • Remotely set up servers • Automatically monitor server hardware • Configure alert notices to be sent based on server activity and hardware sensors • Receive emergency notification and remotely manage servers • Work together with third-party server management software New ISM Features This release of ISM includes the following features that were not in ISM prior to release 5.5: Table 1-1 New Features Feature Native Command Line Interface Advanced CLI Commands System ID LED Controls Redundant Fan Support See these pages: 79 64 30, 31, 44, 52 34 System Requirements ISM contains two parts: ISM Console Software and ISM Server Instrumentation Software. ISM console software runs on one or more management stations, and can be installed on these operating systems: • Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advance Server, Service Pack 3 or higher • Microsoft Windows 2003 Advance Server (HostRAID is not supported) • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 3 or higher ISM Server Instrumentation Software, which is installed on the servers to be managed, will run on servers using Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1, RHEL 3, Windows 2000 AS, and Windows 2003 AS. Support for SNMP-Based Third-Party Server Management Software ISM can run from its own ISM Console or can integrate into HP OpenView Network Node Manager 6.2 for Windows: The default ISM installation incorporates the integration software for HP OpenView if it detects that it is installed on your system.
