- Ink from the cartridges is used in the printing process in a number of different ways, including in the initialization process, which prepares the printer and cartridges for printing, and in printhead servicing, which keeps print nozzles clear and ink flowing smoothly. In addition, some residual ink is left in the cartridge after it is used, and some ink evaporates. ● If you are transporting the printer, follow these tips to prevent ink leaks or printer damage. - Make sure you turn off the printer by pressing the Power button. Wait until all sounds of internal motion stop before unplugging the printer. - The printer must be transported sitting flat, it must not be placed on its side, back, front, or top. Check estimated ink levels You can check estimated ink levels using the printer control panel. Alternatively, you can also check estimated ink levels using the HP software and the embedded web server (EWS). 1. On the control panel Home screen, swipe right and then touch Supplies. 2. Touch Ink Cartridges. NOTE: Ink level alerts and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When you receive a low-ink alert, consider having a replacement cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not have to replace the cartridges until prompted to do so. Order cartridges Before ordering cartridges, visually check the labels on the ink to locate the ink numbers. Use only the replacement cartridges that have the same cartridge number as the cartridge you are replacing. ● Visit hp.com/supplies to order Original HP supplies for the printer. If prompted, choose your country/region, and then follow the prompts to find the right ink for your printer. NOTE: Ordering ink online is not supported in all countries/regions.
