3 Troubleshooting Your HP PC Workstation Image Creation and Recovery CD-ROM Image Creation and Recovery CD-ROM What Functions Are Available? The PC Image Engineer - Image Creation and Recovery CD-ROM enables you to restore your computer to its original factory configuration, change or reconfigure the operating system and reinstall drivers or other factory-supplied software components. The drivers and software utilities, including documentation and navigational aids, help you to recover either the full set of pre-loaded software or subset of it. Some of the available functions on the Image Creation and Recovery CD-ROM are described below: • Full Recovery: Restores the operating system, drivers, utilities and Special Disk Partition as supplied by default. A full recovery also automatically erases any viruses that might be present on the Master Boot Record. It should be noted however, that this function reformats your hard disk drive. It is highly recommended, if possible, that you save all data files and software installations. • Minimal Recovery: Restores only the operating system and SCSI driver for access to a SCSI hard disk drive. • Partial Recovery: Restores individual drivers which are supplied in a "browseable area" of the CD-ROM. • Copy OS Master Files: For use when Windows prompts you to insert the operating system media when installing additional drivers. • HP e-DiagTools: Checks the system configuration and operation. Also described on page 53. NOTE Some of the operations that can be performed using the Image Creation and Recovery CD-ROM will permanently erase the current contents of your hard disk. You should always backup your data and personal files before using the CD-ROM. Requirements Before performing a recovery, upgrade or downgrade, it is advisable that you make a checklist for each type of function. You will require to have the Administrator password to make any changes to the Setup program and it is recommended that you make a note of any changes. 55
