Symptom The system does not respond to the password being entered or the system login prompt is displayed when booting in service mode. Nothing is displayed on the system console, and the operator panel is blank. All display problems. 888 is displayed in the control panel followed by additional error codes. Action Verify that the password is being entered from the ASCII terminal or keyboard defined as the system console. If so, then the keyboard or its controller may be faulty. 1. If entering the password from the keyboard which is attached to the system, replace the keyboard. If replacing the keyboard does not fix the problem, replace the I/O planar. (See notes on 2-1.) 2. If entering the password from a keyboard which is attached to a ASCII terminal, suspect the ASCII terminal. Use the Problem Determination Procedures for the terminal. Replace the I/O planar if these procedures do not reveal a problem. 1. If using a graphic display, go to the Problem Determination Procedures for the display. 2. If you do not find a problem then replace the display adapter. 3. Go to "MAP 1540: Minimum Configuration" on page 2-17. 1. If the problem is with the ASCII terminal: a. Make sure that the ASCII terminal is connected to S1. b. If problems persist, go to the Problem Determination Procedures for the terminal. 4. If you do not find a problem then suspect the I/O planar. Go to "MAP 1540: Minimum Configuration" on page 2-17.
