Troubleshooting Troubleshooting the Storage System This section provides general information about common problems you might have with your storage system and steps you can take to resolve them. I Can't Access the Manager. This can occur if you attached the network cable after powering on the storage system. Shut down the storage system, make sure the network cable is attached, and power it on again. If you use the Console, make sure the computer where the Console is installed is in the same subnet as the storage system. If you use a Web browser, make sure the name or IP address of the storage system is correct. You can use the storage system name only if your computer is in the same subnet as the storage system, if you added the storage system's IP address and name to your local hosts file, or if you manually registered the name with a DNS server in your network. In addition, if you configure the storage system to use a specific IP address, you might need to specify the IP address of the gateway in your network before you can successfully access the Manager using a Web browser. First access the Manager using the Console, as described in "Logging in to the Manager" on page 27, and then specify the gateway address, as described in "Changing the Network Settings" on page 68 and try to access it using a Web browser. I Forgot the Password for Logging in to the Manager. You can reset the storage system to use its original administrator user name (admin) and password (storage) by pressing the small, recessed reset button on the back of the storage system. Note: This also resets the storage system to its original network settings. If you previously configured the storage system to use a specific IP address, it obtains its IP address from the DHCP server, if any. If you do not have a DHCP server on the network, it uses its default IP address (192.168.0.101). For information about changing these settings, see "Changing the Network Settings" on page 68. In addition, pressing this button restarts the storage system, which might adversely affect user connections to shared folders. Be sure to do this only when users are not connected to shared folders or performing recovery. 160 Intel® Entry Storage System SS4000-E User Guide

Troubleshooting the Storage System
This section provides general information about common problems you might have with
your storage system and steps you can take to resolve them.
I Can’t Access the Manager.
This can occur if you attached the network cable after powering on the storage system.
Shut down the storage system, make sure the network cable is attached, and power it on
again.
If you use the Console, make sure the computer where the Console is installed is in the
same subnet as the storage system.
If you use a Web browser, make sure the name or IP address of the storage system is
correct. You can use the storage system name only if your computer is in the same subnet
as the storage system, if you added the storage system’s IP address and name to your local
hosts
file, or if you manually registered the name with a DNS server in your network. In
addition, if you configure the storage system to use a specific IP address, you might need
to specify the IP address of the gateway in your network before you can successfully
access the Manager using a Web browser. First access the Manager using the Console, as
described in
“Logging in to the Manager” on page 27
, and then specify the gateway
address, as described in
“Changing the Network Settings” on page 68
and try to access it
using a Web browser.
I Forgot the Password for Logging in to the Manager.
You can reset the storage system to use its original administrator user name (
admin
) and
password (
storage
) by pressing the small, recessed reset button on the back of the storage
system.
Note:
This also resets the storage system to its original network settings. If you previously
configured the storage system to use a specific IP address, it obtains its IP address from
the DHCP server, if any. If you do not have a DHCP server on the network, it uses its
default IP address (192.168.0.101). For information about changing these settings, see
“Changing the Network Settings” on page 68
.
In addition, pressing this button restarts the storage system, which might adversely affect
user connections to shared folders. Be sure to do this only when users are not connected to
shared folders or performing recovery.
