NETGEAR 8800 User Manual power off/on cycle occurs. A static entry is maintained exactly as it was created. Conditions that cause dynamic entries to be updated, such as VLAN or port configuration changes, do not affect static entries. To create a permanent static FDB entry, see Adding a Permanent Static Entry on page 274. A locked static entry is an entry that was originally learned dynamically, but has been made static (locked) using the MAC address lock-down feature. It is identified by the "s," "p," and "l" flags in show fdb command output and can be deleted using the delete fdbentry [all | [vlan ] command. See MAC Address Lockdown on page 439 for more information about MAC address lock-down. Blackhole Entries A blackhole entry configures the switch to discard packets with a specified MAC destination address. Blackhole entries are useful as a security measure or in special circumstances where a specific source or destination address must be discarded. Blackhole entries can be created through the CLI, or they can be created by the switch when a port's learning limit has been exceeded. Blackhole entries are treated like permanent entries in the event of a switch reset or power off/on cycle. Blackhole entries are never aged out of the database. Private VLAN Entries A Private VLAN (PVLAN) creates special FDB entries that are described in MAC Address Management in a PVLAN on page 257. Adding a Permanent Static Entry

To add a static entry, use the following command:

create fdbentry <mac_addr> vlan <vlan_name> [ports <port_list> | blackhole]
