126 Mobile Computing Monitoring battery power The computer can be used while the RTC battery is being charged, although the charging status of the RTC battery cannot be monitored. Monitoring battery power The computer's battery light gives you an indication of the battery's current charge: ❖ Green means the battery is fully charged. ❖ Amber means the battery is charging (AC Adapter connected). ❖ Off (no illumination) indicates one of the following conditions: the battery is dead, the battery is not charging, the battery is not fully charged, or the AC adapter is not plugged in to the computer or AC outlet. NOTE Battery life and charge time may vary depending upon power management settings, applications and features used. ❖ Flashing amber means the battery charge is low and it is time to recharge the battery or plug in the AC Adapter. HINT: Be careful not to confuse the battery light ( ) with the on/off light ( ). When the on/off light flashes amber, it indicates that the system is suspended (using the operating system Stand By command).
