54 Getting Started Using the computer for the first time Below are examples of some of the many possible icons that may come with your computer: Sample system icons Turning on the power The first time you turn on the computer you should not have any accessories or third-party devices attached. To turn on the computer: 1 If you plan to use AC power rather than battery power), make sure the AC adapter is properly connected to your computer. 2 Slide and hold the power switch until the on/off light on the system indicator panel glows green-about one second. Never turn off the computer while any drive is in use. Doing so may damage the media in use and result in loss of data. For more information see "Powering down the computer" on page 107. 3 The preinstalled operating system loads automatically. When you turn on the computer for the first time, do not turn off the power again until the operating system has loaded completely.
