4-32 Compaq ProLiant 8500 Servers Setup and Installation Guide SCO UnixWare Supported PCI Functionality Compaq support of PCI Hot Plug under UnixWare 7.01 provides hotreplacement, hot-upgrade, and hot-addition for a variety of boards. You can eliminate downtime when you replace faulty adapters, upgrade your systems, and dynamically add new adapters. Software Components The primary software components for hot-plug support include: s Hot-plug user interface Admin Manager s Hot-plug Controller interface s Netscape AutoConfig Subsystem s Hot-plug system and device drivers s Device Driver Interface (DDI-8) specification The Admin Manager is the graphical user interface for PCI Hot Plug technology. All user commands to add, remove, or replace an adapter funnel through the Admin Manager. The Hot Plug Admin Manager is incorporated into SCO's existing system-managed framework called SCO Admin. The Hot Plug Controller interface tracks system component information as well as manages the actions required for hot-plug functions. The Hot Plug Controller Interface processes Hot Plug Services Library (HPSL) requests by interfacing with the Netscape AutoConfig Subsystem. Using the existing Compaq Support Software 2.1, auto-configuring framework hot-plug events will be handled through the resource manager database, which has been updated specifically in the area of dynamically loading and unloading individual device drivers. The device driver interface specification defines how device drivers communicate with the UnixWare operating system and hot-plug software. SCO's Device Driver Interface version 8 (DDI-8) and other device driver interfaces are enhanced to provide the functions for adding or removing driver instances and suspending or resuming operation in conjunction with hot-plug operations.
