4-30 Compaq ProLiant 8500 Servers Setup and Installation Guide Installing PCI Support Compaq Support Software for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (NT SSD), version 2.0 or later, contains all the software components to support Compaq PCI Hot Plug. Included on the NT SSD are hot-plug aware device drivers, such as Compaq NC 3131 Controllers and the Smart Array 3200 Controller. The NT SSD also provides the PCI Hot Plug Utility, Hot Plug service, and the System Management driver. The significant points to consider when installing Windows NT on a PCI Hot Plug system are: s Automatic device detection may not yield results consistent with actual hardware configuration. Confirm the auto detect by looking at the hardware. s The presence of multiple network adapters may complicate the network setup phase. s PCI Hot Plug technology for Windows NT 4.0 relies on the presence of the Windows NT Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) service.
