5 Chapter SCSI Setup This chapter describes the features and set up of the ProLiant 8500 server Integrated Smart Array Controller (Ultra2 support) . Features The ProLiant 8500 Dual Channel Integrated Smart Array Controller is a dual Ultra2 SCSI array controller. Both channels support Low Voltage Differential (LVD) SCSI devices. The controller supports the following features. s 16 MB total memory, 12 MB Read Ahead Cache s Support for up to four internal Ultra2 SCSI Hot-Plug drives in RAID 0, 1, 0+1, and 5 s External connector supports external tape drives for backup of the internal drives s Migration from any RAID level to any RAID level s Migration from any stripe size to any stripe size s PreFailure notification and PreFailure Warranty (through Compaq Insight Manager) s On-line spares Port 2 is dedicated to controlling the SCSI drives in the internal drive bay. Port 1 is connected to an external Very High Density Connector Interface (VHDCI) SCSI connector.
