Using the Hot Shoe The camera has a hot shoe, allowing you to attach an external flash (available in stores). When using an external flash other than the recommended one, follow the steps below. 1. Select FLASH OFF as the flash mode of the built-in flash. (P.44) 2. With the camera and external flash powered off, attach the external flash to the hot shoe. 3. Turn on the camera, turn the Mode Dial to A or M, and set the aperture value. (P.96, P.97) 4. Set the ISO sensitivity to a value other than AUTO. 5. Turn on the external flash, turn its mode to AUTO, and set the F-value and ISO sensitivity to the camera-set values. Be sure to turn off the external flash before detaching the external flash from the camera. 45

Using the Hot Shoe
The camera has a hot shoe, allowing you to attach an external flash
(available in stores).
Certain models of external flashes are recommended for the
camera. When using a recommended external flash, follow the
operation procedure described on P.189.
When using an external flash other than the recommended one,
follow the steps below.
1.
Select FLASH OFF as the flash mode of the built-in flash.
(P.44)
2.
With the camera and external flash powered off, attach the
external flash to the hot shoe.
3.
Turn on the camera, turn the Mode Dial to A or M, and set
the aperture value. (P.96, P.97)
4.
Set the ISO sensitivity to a value other than AUTO.
5.
Turn on the external flash, turn its mode to AUTO, and set
the F-value and ISO sensitivity to the camera-set values.
Be sure to turn off the external flash before detaching the external flash
from the camera.
