Solidify text
You can convert text to composite vector objects. You cannot edit the text after you convert them to vector objects.
Because the characters are joined together as a composite object, you must split the combined paths before you can
edit the characters independently.
To solidify the text, select Commands
> Text
> Solidify.
To split the combined path into independently editable characters, use the subselection tool or select Modify
>
Combine Paths
> Split.
Import text
To import text from Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator®, import a Photoshop or Illustrator file, or copy the text
into Fireworks.
By default, text from Photoshop and Illustrator retains all attributes in Fireworks. However, you can also import
Photoshop text as bitmap images. (See “
Photoshop Import and open preferences
” on page
281.)
To import text in RTF (rich text format) and ASCII (plain text) formats, copy it into Fireworks. You can also select
File > Open or File > Import and navigate to a file. (Imported ASCII text is set to the current fill color and default
font, 12 pixels high.)
Select replacements for missing fonts
When you open a document in Fireworks that contains fonts that are not installed on your computer, you can choose
to replace the fonts or maintain their appearance.
Maintain Appearance
Replaces the text with a bitmap image that represents the appearance of the text in its original
font. You can still edit the text, but when you do, Fireworks replaces the bitmap image with a font that is installed on
your system. Editing can cause the appearance of the text to change.
Replace Missing Fonts
Replaces fonts in the document. You can edit and save the text. When the document is
reopened on a computer that contains the original fonts, Fireworks remembers and uses the original fonts.
