INITIALIZE commands. The password can only be changed from within a secure PJL job. On printers with a control panel, the control panel can be "locked out" so that users cannot modify settings using the control panel keys. This is accomplished using the DEFAULT command to set the CPLOCK variable to ON. The LaserJet 4V/4MV and 5Si/5SiMx printer's disk can be "locked" so that it cannot be formatted, fonts cannot be written to it, and disk fonts cannot be erased. LaserJet Printers With ReducedFunction Control Panels HP LaserJet 4L, 4LJ Pro, 4ML, 4LC, 5P, 6P, 6MP, 5L, and 6L printers have no control panel to specify printer settings. These printers have several features that are different than those of other PJL printers. This section describes those differences and how they affect the use of PJL. No device attendance commands are supported-these printers rely on unsolicited status to communicate with the user. No NVRAM (HP LaserJet 4L/5L/6L only)-because these printers are designed to conserve energy and do not have a power switch, they are never turned off. Therefore, they do not need NVRAM to store feature settings. To simulate a power cycle, use the RESET command to initialize all PJL variables except PAPERSIZE. No multiple I/Os or job boundaries supported (LaserJet 4L/5L/6L only)-these printers are designed for single-user environments. They do not support I/O switching or the concept of job boundaries.
