Chapter 4 Installing Mass Storage Devices Introduction The HP NetServer LPr comes with built-in CD-ROM and floppy diskette drives along with two hot-swap SCSI drive bays for LVDS (low voltage differential) low profile Ultra-2 SCSI devices. The same SCSI channel supporting the hot-swap cages may be extended to external devices via a standard 68-pin wide SCSI connector on the rear panel. See Figure 2-3 for SCSI connector location or the rear panel. NOTE A SCSI repeater card inside the LPr isolates the internal LVD SCSI channel from non-LVD devices outside the chassis. The LPr may be connected with single-ended (SE) SCSI devices outside the chassis. When connecting SCSI devices with the LPr, remember that the internal hot-swap bays are assigned SCSI IDs 0 and 1, and the embedded controller holds ID 7. CAUTION Do not put high voltage differential (HVD) SCSI devices on the same SCSI channel as SE or LVD devices or you will damage the devices. 23

Chapter 4
Installing Mass Storage
Devices
Introduction
The HP NetServer LPr comes with built-in CD-ROM and floppy diskette drives
along with two hot-swap SCSI drive bays for LVDS (low voltage differential) low
profile Ultra-2 SCSI devices.
The same SCSI channel supporting the hot-swap cages may be extended to
external devices via a standard 68-pin wide SCSI connector on the rear panel.
See Figure 2-3 for SCSI connector location or the rear panel.
NOTE
A SCSI repeater card inside the LPr isolates the internal LVD
SCSI channel from non-LVD devices outside the chassis. The
LPr may be connected with single-ended (SE) SCSI devices
outside the chassis.
When connecting SCSI devices with the LPr, remember that
the internal hot-swap bays are assigned SCSI IDs 0 and 1, and
the embedded controller holds ID 7.
CAUTION
Do not put high voltage differential (HVD) SCSI devices on
the same SCSI channel as SE or LVD devices or you will
damage the devices.
