1 Chapter System Description Introduction This chapter describes the features of the Expansion Unit, the Base Module, and the Data Unit of the Compaq StorageWorks TL881/TL891 Family MiniLibrary SystemTM, including storage architecture, SCSI interface, bus performance, and physical configuration/expansion options. The MiniLibrary system is an expandable, modular tape library system that combines DLT technology drives with advanced robotics. The MiniLibrary system is designed for high duty-cycle on-line and near-on-line applications. It is a superior performer in high-volume backup and archival service. Modules The MiniLibrary system is based on three types of modules: I Expansion Unit (master) I MiniLibrary Base Module I Data Unit The MiniLibrary system consists of one Expansion Unit and up to five MiniLibrary Base Modules and Data Units in combination stacked in a rack. The Expansion Unit can move media freely between itself, the MiniLibrary Base Module, and the Data Unit by way of the system's robotically controlled Pass-Through Mechanism (PTM).
