Operating Basics ■ In case of a lightning storm, unplug the modem cable from the telephone jack. ■ Do not connect the modem to a digital telephone line. A digital line will damage the modem. 1. Plug one end of the modular cable into the modem jack. 2. Plug the other end of the modular cable into a telephone jack. Connecting the internal modem Do not pull on the cable or move the computer while the cable is connected. If you use a storage device such as an optical drive or HDD connected to a 16-bit PC card, you might experience the following modem problems: ■ Modem speed is slow or communication is interrupted. ■ Skips may occur in sound.
