Contents Setting Up Basic Sewing Machine Operation Utility Stitches Embroidering TROUBLESHOOTING BEFORE TAKING YOUR MACHINE IN FOR SERVICE Basic sewing machine maintenance Before calling for service, check the following items. If the problem still persists, contact the place of purchase or your nearest Brother dealer. • Trouble with threads and stitches Upper thread breaks Bobbin thread breaks Skipped stitches Upper threading is not correct. Re-thread upper thread. P.20~22 NO Upper thread is entangled. Remove thread ends in the race or inner shuttle. P.97~98 NO Needle is not correctly inserted. . Insert needle properly. P.34 NO Fabric puckers Threading is not correct Re-thread upper and bobbin thread correctly. P.16~22 NO Upper thread is entangled. Remove thread ends in the race or shuttle. P.97~98 NO Bobbin is not threaded properly in the shuttle. Set bobbin properly and pull out the bobbin thread. P.19 NO Correct needle is not used.. Change to proper needle. P.34 NO Correct needle is not used Change to proper needle P.34 NO Spool of thread is not correctly set. Set spool of thread correctly. P.20 NO The combination of fabric, thread and needle is not correct.. Check the "RELATED CHART OF SEWING FABRICS, THREAD AND NEEDLE" . P.35 NO Combination of fabric, thread and needle is not correct. Check "RELATED CHART OF SEWING FABRICS, THREAD AND NEEDLE" P.35 NO Correct needle is not used. Change to proper needle. P.34 NO Dust is clinging under the needle plate. Remove dust by cleaning with a brush. P.97~98 NO Thread tension is too tight. Refer to "THREAD TENSION" P.30 NO Thread tension is too tight. Refer to " THREAD TENSION" P.30 NO Upper threading is not correct. Re-thread upper thread. P.20~22 NO Maintenance Troubleshooting Error Messages Sewing Chart Patterns (Programmed in Machine) Patterns (Memory Card) If you have gone through the troubleshooting tips and are still unable to find the source of the problem, please take your machine back to the place of purchase or your nearest Brother dealer for repairs. 100
