9 Content Addressable Memory (CAM) CAM is a type of memory that stores information in the form of a lookup table. On the switch, CAM stores Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding information, access-lists (ACLs), flows, and routing policies. On a line card, there are one or two CAM (Dual-CAM) modules per port-pipe. CAM Allocation CAM space is allotted in filter processor (FP) blocks. The total space allocated must equal 12 FP blocks. NOTE: There are 16 FP blocks, but the system flow requires three blocks that cannot be reallocated. The following table displays the default CAM allocation settings. To display the default CAM allocation, enter the show cam-acl command.
