What is an ISP? Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are businesses that give you access to the Internet, and most of them provide an electronic mail service (e-mail). There is usually a monthly fee for this service. The types of connection vary and may be a telephone dial-up modem, a LAN (local area network), cable modem, or DSL (Digital Subscriber Line). When your PC connects to the Internet, it is actually communicating with the ISP's Internet computer. The ISP verifies your account and then provides you access to the Internet.
