Chapter 5 Installation and Configuration Step E. Install Cables and Set SCSI ID Switches In this step you connect the adapter's SCSI channels to the physical drives listed in Worksheet A and set their SCSI ID switches. Connect Cables and Set SCSI ID Switches Install the cables to create the hardware setup you planned in Worksheet A. See Appendix D for sample cabling diagrams and default switch settings. Also refer to the system documentation and the Hot Swap Disk Subsystem Cabling Information label on the chassis for factory default cable configurations and SCSI ID switch settings. In general, use the SCSI IDs preset on the hot swap subsystems. NOTE For additional information, refer to: • HP NetServer Storage System/6 User's Guide • HP Rack Storage/8 Installation Guide Install and remove SCSI cables as follows: • SCSI cable connectors must be plugged in or removed evenly, not one end first, to avoid bending the pins. Use the white pull-tab, if present, when removing a connector. • For backplane connectors with locking ears, open the locking ears before inserting the SCSI cable. If you have the HP NetRAID adapter, you may need to use the Strain-Relief Kit that comes with the adapter: • Strain-relief clips (also called "connector locks") on the SCSI cables are too wide to use on Channel 0 on the HP NetRAID adapter. Follow the instructions in the Strain-Relief Kit to replace the strain-relief clip on the cable with a connector lock in the Strain-Relief Kit. • Strain-relief clips on the SCSI cables also will not fit on two adjacent HP NetRAID adapter internal connectors. Replace the strain-relief clip from one of the cables (Channel 1 or 2) with the connector in the Strain-Relief Kit before connecting it. 50

Installation and Configuration

Step E.
Install Cables and Set SCSI ID Switches
In this step you connect the adapter's SCSI channels to the physical drives listed
in Worksheet A and set their SCSI ID switches.
Connect Cables and Set SCSI ID Switches
Install the cables to create the hardware setup you planned in Worksheet A. See
Appendix D for sample cabling diagrams and default switch settings. Also refer
to the system documentation and the Hot Swap Disk Subsystem Cabling
Information label on the chassis for factory default cable configurations and SCSI
ID switch settings. In general, use the SCSI IDs preset on the hot swap
subsystems.
NOTE
For additional information, refer to:
HP NetServer Storage System/6 User's Guide
HP Rack Storage/8 Installation Guide
Install and remove SCSI cables as follows:
SCSI cable connectors must be plugged in or removed evenly, not one end
first, to avoid bending the pins. Use the white pull-tab, if present, when
removing a connector.
For backplane connectors with locking ears, open the locking ears before
inserting the SCSI cable.
If you have the HP NetRAID adapter, you may need to use the Strain-Relief Kit
that comes with the adapter:
Strain-relief clips (also called "connector locks") on the SCSI cables are
too wide to use on Channel 0 on the HP NetRAID adapter. Follow the
instructions in the Strain-Relief Kit to replace the strain-relief clip on the
cable with a connector lock in the Strain-Relief Kit.
Strain-relief clips on the SCSI cables also will not fit on two adjacent HP
NetRAID adapter internal connectors. Replace the strain-relief clip from
one of the cables (Channel 1 or 2) with the connector in the Strain-Relief
Kit before connecting it.
