Chapter 7 MtcEthP and MtcEtx Messages IOPn.MtcEthP status: Device x (y) network connectivity lost. Variables x - the logical device identifier for this adapter (for example, Ethernet0) y - the Windows NT device name (for example, E100B2) Severity Error Description The Ethernet Provider network monitoring has determined that the device lost network connectivity. If it is the active (primary) Ethernet adapter for the HP NetServer AA server, the network traffic fails over to the standby Ethernet adapter. The former primary device remains enabled so it can detect when the cable is repaired. Action • Check the Ethernet cable. Use the HP NetServer AA Manager to examine the port counters for the device to determine if packets are being received. • Check the LEDs on the NIC. • Use the MTCEINFO Tool, described Chapter 7 in HP NetServer AA Solution Administrator's Guide, to monitor the error counters maintained by the adapter. • If the cables are properly connected, but the device remains in the offline state, try rebooting the IOP. (Refer to Chapter 9 in HP NetServer AA Solution Administrator's Guide for information about how to reboot an IOP. In this case, you should power cycle the IOP when you reboot it.) • If the condition recurs: - Replace the Ethernet cable. - Run the manufacturer's diagnostics. - Replace the NIC. IOPn.MtcEthP status: Device x (y) network connectivity restored. Variables x - the logical device identifier for this adapter (for example, Ethernet0) y - the Windows NT device name (for example, E100B2) Severity Informational Description This message is logged when network connectivity is restored following a failure. Action No action is required. 118
