Chapter 1 Introduction Because of this message logging process, in the CE Event Viewer, the timestamp information for messages logged by the IOPs is the time that the CE received the message; it does not necessarily indicate the time that the message occurred on the IOP. To confirm the time that the message occurred, check the event logs on the IOPs. In the CE Event Viewer, the message IOPn.MtcMon status: The boot process has completed for CE1 indicates the CE started uploading any IOP events. Any subsequent messages were received from the IOPs without delay. Format of HP NetServer AA Messages HP NetServer AA messages use the standard Windows NT message format. HP NetServer AA messages are reported using the icons and severity levels described in Table 1-1. Table 1-1Event Log Icons and Severity Levels Severity Level Informational Warning Error Description Informational messages are the least severe and do not require action. Examples of informational messages include: • Reporting benign state changes • Reporting commands as they are issued • Reporting completion status of user-initiated processes Warning messages may require attention. A continued series of warning messages merits review to see if corrective action is required. Examples of warning messages include: • Packet transfer errors • Potential resource allocation issues • Issuing invalid commands Error messages are the most severe and require immediate attention. In some cases an error message reports a serious state change or transition that may have resulted in the HP NetServer AA server being in a vulnerable state or possibly out of service. Examples of error messages include: • Serious hardware and software failures, such as unavailable disks • Power supply failures • Windows NT operating system failures • HP NetServer AA server interconnect path failures 5
