Chapter 14 MtcScsiP and MtcScsiR Messages IOPn.MtcScsiP status: Unable to read one or more sectors SECTORn - SECTORm for DISKx. Note: The read request did not come from the CEs. Variables x - the disk number; for example, DISK0, DISK1, DISK2 SECTORn - the starting sector in the range of sectors SECTORm - the ending sector in the range of sectors Severity Error Description HP NetServer AA software executing on the IOPs issues background read requests to disks that are redirected to the CEs. These reads are usually the result of mirror copy activity, and are not related to CE read requests. A read error of this type will cause a mirror copy to halt. However, unless the disk is a mirror copy target, the disk will remain online and available to the CEs. A mirror copy target will transition from online to offline if it encounters a read error during a mirror copy. Action If the read error occurred in the source disk during a mirror copy, the source disk may need replacement. The read error indicates a bad spot somewhere on the source disk. It may be in the middle of an area reserved by the file system. It may be in an unused area on the disk. • Try restarting the mirror copy by resetting it. If the mirror copy completes successfully, then the error was transient. • However, it is a good idea to verify the SCSI termination and SCSI device connections. • If the mirror copy did not complete, then consider enabling bad block remapping for the source disk. This will automatically remap any bad blocks encountered by the source disk during a mirror copy. Warning: Although a bad block can be remapped, the data in the bad block can never be recovered. Therefore, if the bad block occurs in an area in use by the file system, corruption will occur. • If the read error occurred in the target disk during a mirror copy or if no mirror copy was active, review the event log, looking for previous messages for read error indications. 346
