Each serial port has a 9-pin, male D-shell connector on the back of the server. The pin-number assignments of this connector conform to the industry standard. 1 5 6 9 The following table shows the pin-number assignments for the serial-port connectors. Table 3. Serial Port Pin-Number Assignments Pin Signal Pin Signal 1 Data carrier detect 6 Data set ready 2 Receive data 7 Request to send 3 Transmit data 8 Clear to send 4 Data terminal 9 Ring indicator ready 5 Signal ground When you power-on the server, the POST routine assigns the serial ports to specific communication port addresses. Some application programs use only certain ports, and some modems are designed for use only at certain communication port addresses. You might need to use the System Configuration Utility program to change communication port address assignments to resolve conflicts. 94 Netfinity Server HMM
