Configuring the Server, External SCSI Devices

Page 40 highlights

Attention For proper cooling and airflow, replace the top cover before turning on the server. Operating the server for extended periods of time (over 30 minutes) with the top cover removed might damage server components. Device Driver Installation: See the root directory READ.TXT file on the System CD-ROM for information on the adapter device drivers. Configuring the Server When you start the server for the first time after you add or remove an internal option or an external SCSI device, you might see a message telling you that the configuration has changed. Some options have device drivers that you need to install. Refer to the documentation that comes with the option for information about installing any required device drivers. If you have installed a new microprocessor, you might want to upgrade the operating system. Refer to the ServerGuide package. If the server has a RAID adapter installed, refer to the documentation provided with the RAID adapter. Run the System Configuration Utility to save the new configuration information. External SCSI Devices You can attach a SCSI storage expansion enclosure to the server. Cabling Requirements: If you plan to install external SCSI devices, you must order additional SCSI cables and a SCSI adapter that has an external connector. You must have the correct external SCSI cables. The cables must have the proper connectors for the SCSI adapter and the external devices. Refer to the information provided with your adapter to determine the number of internal and external connectors, channels, and SCSI devices that the adapter supports. For information about the maximum length of SCSI cable between the terminated ends of the cable, see ANSI SCSI Standards: X3.131-1986 (SCSI) X3.131-1994 (SCSI-2) X3T10/1071D Adhering to these standards ensures that the server operates properly. 32 Netfinity Server HMM

Attention
For proper cooling and airflow, replace the top
cover before turning on the server.
Operating the
server for extended periods of time (over 30
minutes) with the top cover removed might
damage server components.
Device Driver Installation:
See the root directory
READ.TXT file on the System CD-ROM for information on
the adapter device drivers.
Configuring the Server
When you start the server for the first time after you add or
remove an internal option or an external SCSI device, you
might see a message telling you that the configuration has
changed.
Some options have device drivers that you need to install.
Refer to the documentation that comes with the option for
information about installing any required device drivers.
If you have installed a new microprocessor, you might
want to upgrade the operating system.
Refer to the
ServerGuide package.
If the server has a RAID adapter
installed, refer to the documentation provided with the
RAID adapter.
Run the System Configuration Utility to save the new
configuration information.
External SCSI Devices
You can attach a SCSI storage expansion enclosure to the
server.
Cabling Requirements:
If you plan to install
external SCSI devices, you must order additional SCSI
cables and a SCSI adapter that has an external connector.
You must have the correct external SCSI cables.
The
cables must have the proper connectors for the SCSI
adapter and the external devices.
Refer to the information provided with your adapter to
determine the number of internal and external connectors,
channels, and SCSI devices that the adapter supports.
For information about the maximum length of SCSI cable
between the terminated ends of the cable, see ANSI SCSI
Standards:
X3.131-1986 (SCSI)
