Internal Drive Bays: Internal drives are installed in bays. The server comes with a preinstalled diskette drive and CD-ROM drive. The CD-ROM drive is installed in one of the five bays in the left front of the server. You can install hot-swap hard disk drives only in the 12 bays on the right front of the server. Diskette Drive Bay CD-ROM Drive Bay Removable Media Bays Hot-Swap Bays Bank B, Bay 1 Bank A, Bay 1 Bank A, Bay 2 Bank A, Bay 3 Bank A, Bay 4 Bank A, Bay 5 Bank A, Bay 6 Bank B, Bay 6 Considerations The server comes with one CD-ROM drive and one 3.5-inch, 1.44 MB diskette drive. The left front bays support 5.25-inch, half-high, removable-media drives. Any two adjacent 5.25-inch, half-high bays can be converted to a single full-high bay. Note The server's EMI integrity and cooling are both protected by having the left front bays covered or occupied. When you install a drive, save the filler panel from the bay, in case you later remove the drive and do not replace it with another. You cannot install hot-swap drives in the left front bays. If you are installing a device with a 50-pin connector in one of the left front bays, you will need a 68-to-50-pin converter (option number 32G3925). The server supports twelve 1-inch (26 mm) slim or six 1.6-inch (42 mm) half-high, 3.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drives in the hot-swap bays. The hot-swap bays connect to two SCSI backplanes. The backplanes are the printed circuit boards behind the bays. Each backplane supports up to six hard disk drives. IBM Netfinity 7000 - Type 8651 101
