To replace a hot-swap fan, do the following: 1. Remove the top cover (see "Cover (Top)" on page 72). Attention To ensure proper system cooling, the top cover should be removed for no more than 30 minutes during this procedure. 2. Determine which fan assembly 4 needs to be replaced. 3. Disconnect the fan power cable 2 . Attention The power cable to the fan should be disconnected before you remove the fan assembly from the server; otherwise, the fan might start turning while you are holding it. 4. Loosen the two screws 1 on top of the fan assembly and lift the fan assembly from the server. Note If the fan rotor is very dusty, it might cause the fan to stop. Try cleaning the fan before you replace it with a new fan. 5. Slide the replacement fan assembly into the server. 6. Tighten the two screws 1 that hold the fan in place. 7.
