Overview
This chapter describes the IEEE 802.1x authentication method.
Port authentication is a way to validate access to ports on the Switch to clients
based on an external server (authentication server). The Switch supports the
following method for port authentication:
IEEE 802.1x
- An authentication server validates access to a port based on a
username and password provided by the user.
The external servers that perform authentication and authorization functions are
known as AAA servers. This Switch supports RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-
In User Service).

What You Can Do
Use the
802.1x Setting
screen (
Section 17.5 on page 129
) to activate IEEE
802.1x security and configure the RADIUS server settings.
Use the
802.1x Port Setting
screen (
Section 17.6 on page 130
) to configure
IEEE 802.1x port authentication settings.
