Online Storage Controller Recovery Option User Guide
Chapter 5
Troubleshooting
If you are unable to perform a task associated with OSCRO, make sure you
have the privilege associated with the task. Other problems you encounter may
relate to reconfigured hardware or upgrading software related to OSCRO,
including Windows NT itself.
Controllers Must Be Matched
Setting up OSCRO requires that both members of a controller pair are capable
of sharing a single instance of the device driver. For this reason, the Online
Storage Controller Recovery Utility does not allow you to create a mismatched
controller pair.
Planning for OSCRO when RSO is in Use
Because the Standby Recovery Server, On-Line Recovery Server, and OSCRO
are mutually exclusive option solutions, an invalid configuration results from
implementing OSCRO when one of the other Recovery Server Options has
been installed and has not been de-installed.
It is also important to understand that the cabling for the Standby Recovery
Server and On-Line Recovery Server options is incompatible with OSCRO.
The cables are the same type but they must be reconfigured for OSCRO. If the
system already has one of the Recovery Server Options installed, you must
reconfigure the cabling before implementing OSCRO.
Incorrect Cabling
There are several ways to cable OSCRO configurations that may appear correct
but are incorrect. These cabling errors can lead to data loss if OSCRO is
implemented and a controller fails. The examples that follow involve cross-
connected, unilateral, and mismatched cabling. These configuration errors must
be avoided.
